Everyone's heard about the benefits of living "green" - better for the environment and society, but did you know that there can be a direct benefit to a potential homeowner that's considering building "green"?
Building a new "green" home can provide the homeowner with potential energy savings and with special financing programs such as FHA's EEM program, can provide the homeowner with incentives such as higher qualification ratios to purchase a green home!
F.G. Ayers, Inc., Summit County's Green Homebuilder, is kicking off a program to bring affordable "green" homes to Summit County in Barberton! Available plans include three bedroom, two bath ranches and colonials with garages! "Green" features of these homes will include:
FRAMING: 2" x 6" California-framed corners and energy roof trusses. This allows for R-60 in the attic and increased wall insulation. The home features an extensive caulk and seal package, including caulking all opening for lights in the ceiling and blown cellulose insulation in the sidewall and attic. Foam exterior insulation was used below grade. All this makes for an extremely air tight home. Anticipated gas bills with normal family living is expected to be below $600 for the year!
INTERIOR. The kitchen and eating area features bamboo all wood flooring and cabinets made from recycled rubber trees. The windows are low E windows. The carpet and padding are recycled materials. The bathroom floors are ceramic tiles and the family room features crown molding. The bathroom vanity tops are solid surfaces and the toilets and shower heads are low flow fixtures. Most of the preceding are not normally found in a home at this price point. All paints are no VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds). This adds to the indoor air quality and is great for those with allergies and respiratory problems. UTILITIES & APPLIANCES. The furnace is a 95% efficient unit. All appliances including washer, dryer, range, stove and refrigerator are Energy Star. LANDSCAPING. Rain barrels to store and use rain water for gardening and lawn maintenance and a rain garden to retain surface runoff water
